lighting and special effects.

I am thinking of doing a piece with no dialog so i want the lighting to play a big part 'An image should convey meaning, mode, tone, atmosphere and subtext on is own- without regard to voice over dialog, audio or other explanation.'

i want to look at special effects from the 1900s instead of modern day effects.  The effects from the 1900s are more theatrical consentrating more on the set design rather than high-tech modern ones.
