I got these two books out from the library to further look into special effects and cinematography

Psycho Trailer

Another horror film i enjoyed was Alfred hitchcock's movie psycho, a great storyline with a twist ending.  There is nothing fancy about this movie no special effects but instead sharp editing, lighting changes, a great soundtrack and character expression which portrays the horror element.

RvD2: Ryan vs. Dorkman 2 -- HD

Another clip found on youtube. I really like the effects in this piece it doesnt look like the most expensive made movie but it works really well. The dramatic camera angles and extreme close ups really draw you in as you wait to see who wins.

RvD2 DVD: Visual Effects Sneak Preview

This clip is an insight on how they achieved their special effects! I like the amount of effort they put in to make it as realistic as possible eg the part were the lightsaber is dragged across the floor.

Sleepy Hollow trailer

I like the cinematography in sleepy hollow! I like the contrast between the lighting during day and night. During the day the colours are warmer and at night there is a blueish tone to the scenes.

Nosferatu

On researching german expressionism i came across the film nosferatu a 1920s horror. I love the use of shadow in this still from the film.  Unlike modern horror with heavy special effects make up etc this film uses camera angles, low lit cinematography and dramatic shadows to create fear.

I found this clip on youtube! I really like the fact that it is a time lapse piece that shows the process of creating 3D art. The music works well as it is quite a dramatic soundtrack with violins, to work well with the dramatic piece of artwork being producing. I like the way the clip captures the process of creating the artwork instead of just showing the final piece.
